Cornerstone Bar and Grill - Ketchum, Idaho
Jury Comments:
"The project can be summed up by saying: Simple direct elegant. It was clear that the design team appreciated the historic volume and generated a wonderful project diagram that celebrated the spirit of the existing and historical building. Critical to the success of this project was the design development that was described by one juror, as being a lyrical quality with both rhythm and style. It was noted by the jury that this is a poignant example of how a design scheme can both maintain a sense of place when dealing with a historic structure while also injecting a contemporary message. Worth special comment was how the detailing and craft enhances what seems to be a genuine western experience with a dynamic atmosphere."
"An Idaho House" - Hailey, Idaho
Jury Comments:
"Sensitive residential solution that's elegant and humble. The jury commented on its quietness and how the exterior metal detailing reflected the homes environment. The entry sequence along with the exterior skin and eaves details were very well detailed and highly crafted. Of special note was the honesty of the projects structural expression and materials. This project is a wonderful display of very simple and ordinary materials used to make an extraordinary architecture"
"Shed / Studio - Allen Cabin" Warm Lake Cascade, Idaho
Jury Comments:
"This is a very modest yet sensitive project, representative of a very mature and sophisticated design solution. What struck us here was in many ways was what was not there. By that, we acknowledge the restraint and the designers ability to be very respectful to a very classic and historical rustic cabin structure. Playing up the outdoor connection through space between the old cabin and the new structure was critical to this projects success. As this allowed the old and the new to not only be sensitive to each other but in fact allow the characteristics of each to be celebrated. There was a strong sense of stewardship and respect to building, place, landscape and natural space."
Lake Creek Lot 26 - Ketchum, Idaho
Jury Comments:
"Contemporary western house, Strong parti, clear plan, strong space. These reflect the natural context at a micro and macro manner. Window baffling, framing views and the outdoor space (entry and roof space). Consistent design development, detailing and material exploration certainly contributed to the success of this project."
600 Second Condo Residences - Ketchum, Idaho
Jury Comments:
"This is a very sound and well-executed high-density residential project. An organized scheme that displayed a sensitive site strategy, scale, and strong order in both plan and section. The relationship between the interior and exterior spaces seemed to anchor the idea, as the outdoor spaces seem to offer a nod to being both collective and individual. In short this was very skillfully managed through design and that consistency and discipline certainly contributed to its success"
Idaho State Capitol Restoration - Boise, Idaho
Jury Comments:
"Extraordinary and very important building for Idaho. We certainly compliment the State of Idaho for supporting preservation in what was a very sensitive effort. Certainly a special acknowledgment to the design firm for getting it right and understanding the service aspect and responsibility necessary to enhance very critical and important structures, spaces and places that belong to the people. A point of discussion for us was the importance that new additions to such historical structures have the ability to differentiate themselves from the older building forms and spaces. It seemed there was an opportunity for the new wings to establish an architectural language that may have been more current and respecting the original building by serving as a point of contrast.
