Wha does AIA stand for?
Since its inception in 1857, when a group of 13 architects laid the foundation for what would become The American Institute of Architects (AIA), the acronym "AIA" has stood for architectural excellence.
With over 160 years of history and a thriving membership of over 100,000 professionals worldwide, the AIA remains committed to rigorous education, comprehensive training, and professional excellence.
Today, the AIA Idaho Chapter is proud to represent a community of 420 architects and professional affiliates, all dedicated to upholding the highest standards of architectural practice and fostering innovation in our field.
The mission of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) is to promote excellence in architecture and design. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, AIA aims to advance the value and quality of the architectural profession. By fostering collaboration and innovation, AIA strives to create a built environment that enriches lives and enhances communities.

The program showcased innovative technologies, materials, and resilient strategies, sparking insightful discussions and garnering positive feedback, including remarks like "Great discussion! I learned more in this one hour regarding sustainable design than in the past 10 years!" (Glen Berry, FAIA, Gensler).
Thanks to the generous support of our industry partners Idaho Power, BHB Structural Engineers, and Intermountain Gas Company and individual donors, the event was made possible and free to attendees.

Involving architects early in project development offers tremendous benefits in the form of cost savings, the building’s harmony with the existing community, and improved usability of the space.
Why should I hire an architect?
AIA members are leading the way to carbon neutral, acting as a force multiplier for sustainable, resilient design in communities around the world.
AIA isn’t just supporting this effort, we’re prioritizing it. Our latest efforts include AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence, ten defining principles that guide architects and their clients on the path
to sustainable, resilient, inclusive design; and Blueprint for Better, a multiyear campaign with definitive resources like courses, talking points, message books, research, and reports to transform public awareness and the day-to-day practice of architecture.
